[box type=”default” size=”large”] She garners 12th place in national tournament in Tucson [/box]Filipina-American Myla Agulay Snyder will compete in the World Duathlon Championships 2014 which will be held in Pontavedra, Spain on May 30-June 1, 2014.
Snyder qualified to participate in the world championships for garnering 12th place in the 40-49-year-old division of the National USTA (United States Triathlon Association) Championships held in Tucson, Arizona on Oct. 26, 2013.
The 18 athletes (No. 1 to No. 18) who topped the Tucson tournament will compose the Team USA that will compete in the world championships.
Snyder said there were 800 athletes who participated in the National USTA duathlon tournament. She was the only Filipino who joined the tournament. Her son Randy accompanied and supported her in the tournament.
Duathlon is a test of speed and stamina as the athletes have to run for 2.5 miles, bike for 17 miles and run again for 2.5 miles.
Snyder said she had trained for months for the tournament. Her passion for running started when she was in the elementary grade in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, her hometown.
Snyder is a businesswoman, who owns and operates the Far East variety shop at the mall complex in Wayne. She migrated to the US in 1990.
