MANILA — As the mid-term elections draw near, more big-name personalities are throwing their hats into the political arena.
The local elections will be held nationwide in May 2013.
In Parañaque City, voters are anticipating a clash between incumbent Congressman and former vice governor Edwin Olivarez and incumbent Councilor Benjo Bernabe, son of the incumbent mayor, for the city’s mayoralty seat.
In Quezon City, two comedians will give the more than three million residents “a laugh-till-you-drop potical show” when incumbent Mayor Herbert “Bistek” Bautista cross swords with Eat Bulaga’s host and movie producer-comedian Marvic “Bosing” Sotto.
The Entertainment City of Pasay is not far behind in the next political showdown. Successful businessman and known political patron Jorge del Rosario will collide with his alleged political beneficiary, incumbent Mayor Tony Calixto. Some say it’s a fight between the creator and the created?
In Taguig City, it is a rematch between the veteran gladiators – former Supreme Court Justice Dante Tinga and incumbent Mayor Lani Cayetano, wife of Senator Allan Peter Cayetano. Tinga had filed an election protest against the lady mayor, but the case is not expected to be resolved until next year. This is expected to make the contest more intense and exciting.
