In its pre-holiday dual observation of Thanksgiving and Christmas, members of the Michigan Circulo Pampangueno got together to celebrate the occasions at Laurel Woods Clubhouse in Southfield on Nov. 23, 2014. The potluck affair brought an array of sumptuous dishes to the delight of the members. It was a festive spread of laughter, cheer and good sense of fellowship.
The organization under the current leadership of its president, Flor Sitchon, can boast of some notable achievements that had energized its membership into active engagement of its activities. To keep the momentum going, regular meetings hosted by the members were held. Thanks to Dr. Lib Pantig, Aurora Renker and Alex and Flor Sitchon for having opened their homes for the gatherings .
A major project the organization had achieved so far is its co-sponsorship of the USTMAM Medical Mission in the Philippines in January 2014. The organization was represented by members Drs. Joe and Stella Evangelista and Dr. Libring Pantig. Circulo donated $5,000 for this project, and it received a huge 2×3 framed certificate of appreciation from Mayor Ed Pamintuan of Angeles City.
Another big event the organization hosted was its fundraising affair that drew close to 150 guests who had immensely good time at the Dots and Lines soiree. The committee of this event was chaired by its President-Elect Rose Caoagas.
Circulo is a big supporter of PACCM and the World Medical Relief as evidenced by its generous donations of $500 to the 2014 PACCM Valentine’s Ball and the same amount to WMR’s Gala Dinner last November. The group sends members to the WMR warehouse to help in sorting and packaging of medical and other supplies for shipment. Thanks to members Espie and Henry Changcoco, Lily Ambrosio Ylen and Alex Sitchon who had given their time to help WMR.
Circulo sponsored for the first time the PACCM’s 2014 Recognition of Graduates last June by donating $300 for the food served during the reception for the graduates, their parents and guests.
August saw a great attendance by more than 100 members and friends at its picnic held at Jaycee Park in Troy.
The group supported the UST Singers fundraising efforts for PACCM with another monetary donation with 10 free tickets distributed to its members. Flor also chaired the Volunteers’ Committee of the Consular on Wheels annual service sponsored by PACCM .
As an active member of the Filipino American Community Council (FILAMCCO), Circulo has supported its annual events such as Rizal Day in 2013 with a one-page ad in its souvenir program and the Kalayaan festivities with Ginang Diwa ng Kalayaan Pinky Lacap representing the organization. Our MCP president, Flor Sitchon, emceed the entertainment segment of the program. Circulo members also attended the 2014 Miss Philippines beauty pageant.
Lined up in the offing are plans to give Christmas presents to needy children and a possible casino trip fundraiser in spring under the auspices of Dr. Lib Pantig.
While Circulo enjoys a great deal of camaraderie among its members and friends, it does, however, continue to include community service in the list of its goals, and for this we take pride in being part of any worthy collaborative efforts in our community.
