MANILA — The Philippines is the “Most Romantic Destination.”

This distinction was bestowed by Chinese newspaper Shanghai Morning Post based on a survey it had conducted.

The award was given recently at the posh Shanghai Peninsula Hotel by the Bund.

Other country winners include Australia, “Best Tour Destination for Discovery;” Switzerland, “Best Shopping Paradise;” Korea, “Best Skiing Destination;” and Germany, “Best Destination for Art Appreciation.”

Earlier this month, the Philippines also received the “Best Tourist Destination” award given by the Oriental Morning Post at its annual World Travel-Special Trips Awards.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said more and more Chinese are travelling to the Philippines especially during this winter season in China and for the week-long Chinese New Year celebration in February.

Several Philippine carriers have re-launched their flight services from China to the Philippines to cater to the growing demand for plane seats by Chinese travellers.

Airphil Express reactivated its chartered flights from Shanghai to Kalibo on Nov. 30, 2012. This was followed by Zest Air which also increased its flight frequency from Shanghai to Manila in December 2012.

The regular multiple flight services to Manila continue to run steadily out of Beijing, Shanghai, Xiamen, Jinjiang, and Guangzhou. (Manila Bulletin)
