Canton County is fast becoming a restaurant hub. Restaurants offering almost all kinds of foods have mushroomed on busy Food Road, Sheldon Road and Canton Center Road.
Because these eateries have their own unique menus, they have their own clientele niches.
When it comes to Oriental food, Ruby Buffet located at 5848 Sheldon Road (near Ford Road) has been drawing a lot of Asians, mostly Chinese and Filipinos. There are at least five reasons why Asians are patronizing Ruby Buffet.
First, it is the only place offering buffet foods in Canton. Second, it has a wide selection of dishes. Third, it is comparatively cheap. Fourth, it is always clean. Fifth, Julie, the owner, has an excellent PR (public relations), which is akin to Asian hospitality.
Ruby Buffet’s wide selection of dishes includes Asian favorites such as fried or steamed dumplings, fried shrimps, chicken on stick, hot and sour soup, shrimp chop suey, beef lo mein, vegetable mei fun, pork with broccoli, Szechuan chicken, sesame chicken, beef with broccoli, shrimp with garlic sauce, steamed fish and sautéed mushroom and tofu.
Also, it has American and Mongolian dishes and different kinds of sushi. Likewise, there are many dessert choices.
It also offers trays of foods for parties. These include trays of chicken fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, shrimp with mixed vegetables, crab Rangoon, steamed fish, salt pepper shrimp and salt pepper squid. Prices per tray range from $10 to $38.
Its party/function room can accommodate 100 persons.
Ruby Buffet is open seven days a week. On Monday and Thursday, it opens at 11 a.m. and closes at 9:30 p.m., on Friday and Saturday, it opens its doors at 11 a.m. and closes at 10 p.m., and on Sunday, it opens at 11 a.m. and closes at 9 p.m.
Ruby Buffet adheres strictly to food-quality standards, throwing away all leftover food at closing time.
Customers entering the place are greeted with a smile by Julie and directed to a table most convenient to them. When the place is packed with diners and management is shorthanded, Julie herself does the job of serving the customers. And she goes from table to table, asking the diners, “is everything okay?”
Compared to the prices of other buffet eateries, Ruby Buffet’s prices are much lower. And now it has been further lowered with the 10 percent coupon discount being given to its customers. (See Ruby Buffet ad on the front page of this newspaper.) Seniors and children also get special discount.
No wonder many Asians enjoy eating at Ruby Buffet.
