American Idol season XIII has come and gone, and the winner announced.
During the finale, Filipina-American Malaya Watson was able to perform with Demi Lovato and the American Idol Top 13 girls on “Neon Lights.” She also performed with John Legend and sang “All of Me.” She had a good time meeting many of her supporters during the finale parties given by FOX Broadcasting and 19 Entertainment.
She had already completed unpacking her luggage after coming home to Southfield, but then only two weeks are left before she starts heading out again. While she was back home, she worked on getting her driver’s license and passing her junior year finals. Her schedule was tight for these two weeks as she was invited to perform at different events, including the following two affairs:
On Wednesday, June 11, the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Task Force, Inc. will host its First Annual Justice and Equality Awards Ceremony. The event will recognize individuals who had an impact in their field such as sports and entertainment, human services, arts and communication, law, and ,edicine. The Task Force selected Malaya as an “Emerging Young Leader” honoree. The event is a fundraiser which is going to be at the Pi Banquet Hall in Southfield.
On Thursday, June 12, Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit will have its homecoming grand celebration of Mosaic’s brand-new, state-of-the-art facilities in the former historic Miller High School. Malaya will meet and greet Mosaic supporters during the special evening. Malaya was a member of the Mosaic’s Main Stage Choir when the group presented in May 2013 the “Hastings Street,” a historical re-imagination of the old Miller High School during the heyday of Detroit’s “Black Bottom.”
On Friday, June 13, we head out of town to New York State, to prepare for the first leg of the American Idol Live! 2014 Tour.
