Although 16-year-old Filipina-American Malaya Watson has been eliminated from American Idol Season XIII, she is still a part of the TV show’s group of Top 10 contestants now staging concerts in various parts of the US and Canada.
In an email sent to the Filipino Star News by her Filipino-American mother, Marian Bandico-Watson, it was stated that she was voted off “the competition on the evening of April 10, but her American Idol journey continues as part of the Top 10 contestants.”
Malaya had already reached the Top 7 level when she was eliminated.
Meanwhile, American Idol and 19 Entertainment have released the schedule for the Idol Summer Tour that features the top 10 singers from Season 13. They are C.J. Harris, Jena Irene, Caleb Johnson, Jessica Meuse, MK Nobilette, Alex Preston, Dexter Roberts, Majesty Rose, Malaya Watson, and Sam Woolf.
Tickets will go on sale beginning May 9. American Idol has partnered with the Melanoma Research Alliance to help find a cure for melanoma. It was announced that $1 of each ticket sold will go to the Alliance to aid in its research efforts.
The group will be at the Soaring Eagle Casino in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan on August 7, 2014. It will also perform at the Colosseum in Caesars in Windsor, Ontario, Canada on June 27, 2014.
In the same email, Mrs. Watson thanked “all who voted for Malaya so she may have a successful experience in being part of the American Idol Season 13.
She also thanked the Southfield HigH School where Malaya is studying and the City of Southfield, Michigan “for providing support and assistance as she moved forward to her journey.”
Mrs. Watson likewise expressed her family’s gratitude to “family members and close friends for sharing the good news and willingly took the role of town criers and messengers with all your love and care to take part of her experiences.”
