The Philippine Medical Association of Michigan (PMAM) announced that the yearly Thanksgiving Day Filipino mass will be held on Nov. 22, 2012 at the St. Hugo of the Hills church on Opdyke Road, Bloomfield Hills.
PMAM President Rosemary Aquiler-Angeles said that as in the past, PMAM will lead again the preparation for and presentation of the mass that will start at 11 a.m.
The holding of the mass is a tradition started 28 years by PMAM, which was then headed by Dr. Roberto Barretto as president with Buddy Ostrea as choir director.
During this yearly event, Filipino-American Catholics gather as a community to pray to and praise God and “give our heartfelt thanks for all His blessings to us, to the United States of America and to the Philippines.”
Filipino choirs will sing the hymns and psalms at the mass, which will be said by Filipino priests.
The mass is unique in that the hymns and psalms are sung in Tagalog. These were composed by Philippine National Artist Lucio San Pedro. Later, these were arranged by Fr. Eduardo Hontiveros, SJ, and Fr. Manuel Francisco, SJ.
