The Kalayaan Picnic, a much awaited Filipino-American community summer event, will be held on June 7, 2014.
Preparations are now under way to make the event a big, festive Independence Day celebration, an annual undertaking of the Filipino-American Community Council (FILAMCCO).
As in the past, the event will be held at Halmich Park on 13 Mile Road, Warren.
The event will start with the traditional parade of organizations and a brief community program.
This year’s Kalayaan picnic, which will mark the celebration of the Philippine Independence Day, will feature an adobo-cooking contest.
The event is expected to be another day of merriment and picnic-style sharing of food as well as community dancing. There will also be a 50-50 raffle.
Last year’s picnic was attended by some 3,000 revelers.
FILAMCCO headed by President Imelda Martin Hum is in the thick of preparations for the Kalayaan picnic. The overall celebration committee is chaired by Willie Dechavez.
