The Filipino American Community Council (FILAMCCO), the umbrella organization of 45 member associations, announced that its signature event, the Rizal Day celebration, will be held on Dec. 17, 2016 at Penna’s of Sterling Heights at 38400 Van Dyke Road, Sterling Heights.
The event, dubbed “Cultural Gala,” carries the theme “Revive, Life and Inspire” which focuses on the renewal of Spanish and Japanese cultural influences in the Philippines.
More significantly, the event features the traditional honor given to Philippine National hero Dr. Jose Rizal whose struggles and sacrifices to deliver his countrymen from foreign oppression gave Filipinos the freedom they enjoy today. The Filipino community in Michigan celebrates annually Dr. Rizal’s life and legacy during his death anniversary in December
The ceremonies will commence with the Parade of Colors with the member-organizations bearing their banners. The parade will be led by past and current FILAMCCO presidents who will offer a wreath to Dr. Jose Rizal. Other activities will include an entertainment program, appreciation awards, keynote speech, auctions and public dancing.
Production of a special tribute based on a timeline account referred to as “Kahapon , Ngayon at Bukas” will feature song-and-dance routines representative of Spanish and Japanese influences. A fashion show ensemble participated by beauty pageant title holders will be another highlight. The finale will show all program participants proudly exhibiting Filipino living, inspiring and uniting together for a better tomorrow.
FILAMCCO President Ryan Rosario has appointed Tony Kho and Loida Moses as co-chairpersons of the overall event committee.
FILAMCCO has already secured three corporate sponsors. They are DTE Energy, 168 Asian Mart and Cass Collision.
