Preparations are now under way for the celebration of Rizal Day set on Dec. 19, 2015 at the MET Hotel in Troy.
The preparations began in earnest shortly after various committees were created. The annual Rizal Day celebration is a flagship project of the Filipino American Community Council (FILAMCCO) headed by outgoing President Imelda Martin-Hum. The theme of the celebration is Jose Rizal: A Celebration of His Life and Legacy.
Lavinia Mateo, chairperson of the overall Rizal Day committee, said various committees were created in a bid to speed up the preparations for the celebration.
Mateo announced that the new officers of FILAMCCO led by incoming President Ryan Rosario will be inducted during the Rizal Day event.

Invitation and outreach (to Filipino-American organizations) — Willie Dechavez, chairperson; solicitation of ads for souvenir program — Ryan Rosario, chairperson, and Archie Mojares, co-chairperson; welcome reception – Betsy Henry, chairperson, and Fe San Agustin, co-chairperson (members — Miss Philippines, Mrs. Philippines, Miss NAFFA-MI and Ms. Florence Nightingale); registration – Letty Dancel, chairperson, and Annable DeBarr, co-chairperson (members — Martha Cabarios, Rose Caogas, Boots Gabarda and Amy Risvold); program and entertainment – Becky Tungol, chairperson, and Carmelita Meitzler, co-chairperson; decoration – Edith Manzano, chairperson, and Josie Palu-ay, co-chairperson (member — Alford Thompson); organization parade — Edith Manzano, chairperson, and Carmen Perez-Villanueva, co-chairperson; seating arrangement, Rose Caoagas, chairperson; sweet table – Tess Porcalla, chairperson, and Eden Alfaro, co-chairperson; publicity and media – Tony Antonio, chairperson, and Percy Antonio, co-chairperson.
