PMAM’s (Philippine Medical Association of Michigan) inaugural ball held on Sept. 17, 2016 at Somerset Inn, Troy was highlighted by the dancing of the traditional Rigodon de Honor by 16 pairs.
The dance floor turned into an amazing sight as the partners, many of them seniors, moved briskly, spun gracefully and strode to the fast Rigodon music. The traditional, Spanish dance was choreographed by Dr. Candy Catapang.
The seniors danced gamely and did not show fatigue or experience shortness of breath. The audience showed its appreciation by clapping loudly. “Doctor Orly (Sison) could still pull the trigger,” one guest was overheard as saying.
The two emcees – Dr. Efren Platon and Dr. Doree Ann Espiritu – also made similar favorable remarks about how the seniors performed the Rigodon.
The pairs were mostly former PMAM presidents and their partners. They were Dr. Norberto Sugayan (president, 1960-1965) and Dr. Jacqueline Gamiao, Dr. Roberto Barreto (president, 1983-1984) and wife Millie Barreto, Dr. Orlando Sison (1990-1991) and Dr. Chona Lastimosa, Dr. Efren Platon (1996-1997) and wife Dr. Tita Platon, Dr. Lourdes Andaya (1997-1998) and Ruel Marasigan, Dr. Cecilia Switzer (2003-2004) and Ed Santos, Dr. Ernestina Mac (2004-2005) and Dennis Papa, Dr. Edgar Altares (2006-2007) and wife Dr. Evelyn Altares, Dr. Clarina Perez (2007-2008) and Art del Carmen, Dr. Doree Ann Espiritu (2009-2010) and husband Dante Espiritu, Dr. Sonia Fernando (2010-2012) and Dr. Augusto Jamora, Dr. Rosemary Aquiler-Angeles and husband Ferdine Angeles, Dr. Esther Aoigan-Guevarra (2014-2016) and husband Ed Guevarra, Owen Diaz and wife Dr. Ruth Diaz, Dr. Gilbert Roc (2016-2018) and wife Dr. Ruby Roc, and Manjoe Sebastian and Emma Pacris.
Another entertainment number that drew applause was a violin serenade performed by three young talents – namely, Ian Espiritu, Nathan Espiritu and Jason Alava. They serenaded the golden jubilarians with the tune of “Maala-ala Mo Kaya.”
Serenaded were Doctors Eleanor Medina, Leopoldo Palad, Leonel Torres, Efren Platon, Ernestina Mac, Liberata Pantig and Teresita Platon, all golden jubilarians.
