[box type=”default” size=”large”] Excitement building up as staging of pageant nears [/box]
Excitement is building up over the Miss Philippines-Michigan 2014 beauty contest as the Filipino American Community Council (FILAMCCO) steps up its preparations for the staging of the pageant on August 24, 2014 at the St. John’s Banquet and Conference Center in Southfield.
Rose Caoagas, chairperson of the FILAMCCO committee tasked to handle the staging of the beauty competition, said that this year’s edition of the contest attracted nine candidates, a number that is unprecedented in the history of the pageant.
Following are biographical sketches of five of the nine candidates:

Loren is 24 years old and the youngest daughter of Gloria and Jose Camano.
She obtained her degree in Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Wayne State University.
Loren sees herself in the future as a successful certified registered nurse-anesthetist. She is passionate about holistic nursing, caring for the mind, body and spirit, and she wants to integrate these concepts into her nursing practice.
Her passions include singing, playing the guitar and piano, musical theatre, playing with animals, doing yoga, dancing the zumba and spinning.
She was Miss Valentine 2013 of the Brownstown Lions Club.
She has four siblings — namely, Kaycee, Ricky, Benjo, Aimee, and Kiril. The family lives in Westland, Michigan.

Jamielyn, 21 years old, is a graduate of the Henry Ford Community College. She works at the Henry Ford Health System as a patient advocate. At present, she is taking a course in nursing
Her Filipina mother Erlinda, who hails from San Fernando, La Union, Philippines, works at a retirement home.
Her African-American father James Howard, who is from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, works with Enterprise. She has two sisters – Jaslyn Howard-Kokos, 22 years old, and Jalyn Howard, 19 years. Both her sisters serve in the US Navy.

Meaghan, 18 years old, will graduate in December this year with a degree in business management from the Northwood University.
Her mother is a nurse practitioner. Her mom’s mother, Teresita Eugenio, is from Tacloban City, and her mom’s dad, Dr. Lamberto Eugenio, is from Manila. Doctor and Mrs. Eugenio, Meaghan’s grandparents, immigrated to the US in the late 60s.
Meaghan’s dad is a marketing director of a company. He is European with mix blood – 50% Luxembourg, 12.5% French-Canadian, 12.5% Scottish, 12.5% Welsh and 12.5% Irish.
Her lolo and lola have houses in Lipa City, Batangas and in Tacloban City, Leyte
Meaghan works at the Health Enhancement Systems, a company in Midland, as an intern. Her task focuses on web development. In her last job, she created a website for a new company.
Her hobbies include singing. She is a lead singer of a classic rock/country/pop band called “Diamond Drive.”
Her other hobbies are yoga, reading and cooking healthy foods.
The causes she had supported included “Girls on the Run” and her sorority’s philanthropic arm, the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation which primarily raises money for diabetes research.
Meaghan has also formed a children acting group called YES! (Young Entertainers Symposium). which helps kids with ages between 8 and 12 improve their confidence and explore and develop their acting talent.
[box type=”default” size=”large”] Christina Fleurdelis Pozon [/box]
Christina was born on September 20, 1988 in Long Beach California. Her parents are Timolin, a native of Detroit, and Jonas Pozon, who hails from Cebu, Philippines. The family lives in Detroit.
The second youngest of five children, Christina is noted for her remarkable work ethic, excelling in everything she did — from dancing with her high school and college dance teams and playing basketball in the post position for over five years in the Philippine Basketball Association of Michigan (PBAM) tournaments to completing her medical program at the top of her class.
Through hard work, she has nurtured her passion for music. She performed well in contests, including the world renowned “American Idol” show during which she had made it in a few rounds. She also performed at community concerts such as the “Summer Jamz” and at Philippine community events.
She hopes that one day she will join an organization whose purpose is to feed the world. She wants to use her talent and influence to positively impact on women and share with them a positive mindset which she believes is essential to living a better life.

Danielle is a 20 year old junior at the University of Michigan, studying cellular and molecular biology with a minor in medical anthropology. She plans to attend medical school and become a surgeon.
She works as the course coordinator for her university’s chemistry study groups, as a docent and a server in the Museum of Natural History. In her free time, she dances on the Salto Dance Company, plays the cello, does CrossFit and trains in Olympic weightlifting.
