The Filipino Star News is now seven years old. This issue is the first in its eighth year of operations.
To celebrate its seventh year of existence, the Filipino Star will publish an anniversary supplement in the next issue (Dec. 16-31, 2016).
The supplement will feature pictorials on important events in 2016, readers’ comments and an editorial on what kind of news stories and reports should a community newspaper publish to serve the best public interest.
The supplement will also contain greeting ads from groups, supporters, patrons and friends of the Filipino Star.
The maiden issue of Filipino Star (then known as Michigan Filipino Star) hit the street on Dec. 10, 2009, and since then it has been continuously published twice in a month or every 15 days.
In a seven-year period ending Nov. 30, 2016, a total of 170 issues of the community newspaper were published.
The management hopes to continue publishing this community, tabloid-sized, free newspaper for many more years.
It has plans to increase the number of pages to enable it to print more news reports and articles for our readers.
The management thanks God “for giving us the energy, wisdom and patience that enable us to keep publishing this newspaper.”
It also profusely thanks “our advertisers for continuously supporting us. Without their support, the Filipino Star would not have gone this far.”
Likewise, we express our gratitude to our readers for their words of encouragement and moral support.
As a business, like most community newspapers, the Filipino Star does not glitter like gold. At present, ad revenues are just enough to cover the cost of printing.
What keeps the adrenaline flowing is the staff’s passion for writing and its sense of public service.
