Vote out of office heartless politicians

It’s unbelievable what the Trump administration would do to stop illegal immigration, especially from countries south of the border. Blaming illegal immigrants for the “killings and crimes being caused by gangs and thugs, including the MS-13, coming into our country illegally,” the Trump administration has been pressuring Congress to fund a border wall with Mexico that would cost $25 billion, has rounded up and deported thousands of undocumented immigrants, including those who have no criminal record, and is now separating children from parents who have crossed the border in an attempt to flee violence in their respective countries.

The administration’s latest move, grabbing crying children from scared mothers near the border, has been widely criticized worldwide and across political spectrum as “cruel,” “immoral” and “heartless.” It also shows how low this administration is willing to go to “make America white again.”

Remember what President Donald Trump said during a meeting with congressional leaders at the Oval Office when speaking about refugees from El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala? He said: “Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?” He went on to suggest that the United States should bring more people from countries like Norway.

Again recently as he faced mounting criticism over the separation of children from their refugee mothers who are trying to flee violence from these three South American countries, Trump tweeted: “Why don’t the Democrats give us the votes to fix the world’s worst immigration laws? Where is the outcry for the killings and crime being caused by gangs and thugs, including MS-13, coming into our country illegally?”

“Children are being used by some of the worst criminals on earth as a means to enter our country. Has anyone been looking at the Crime taking place south of the border. It is historic, with some countries the most dangerous places in the world. Not going to happen in the U.S,” Trump added.

But that is precisely the reason these mothers are seeking refuge in America because of the violence perpetrated by criminals in their countries. Why deprive them now of the right to present their case for political asylum before the courts?

The jailing and prosecution of the adults, mostly mothers, who illegally crossed the borders in recent weeks is in enforcement of a “zero tolerance policy” announced by Attorney General Jeff Sessions in April. He described it as an “escalated effort to prosecute those who choose to illegally cross our border.” Under Sessions’s directive, all those apprehended for entering the United States illegally — including families with small children — would be criminally charged.

Faced by the public outcry against the separation of children from their mothers, Trump tried to put the blame again on the Democrats in his tweets: “CHANGE THE LAWS! It is the Democrats [sic] fault for being weak and ineffective with Boarder [sic] Security and Crime. Tell them to start thinking about the people devastated by Crime coming from illegal immigration. Change the laws!”

On May 16, Trump said during a roundtable on sanctuary cities: “We have to break up families. The Democrats gave us that law. It’s a horrible thing where you have to break up families. The Democrats gave us that law, and they don’t want to do anything about it.”

Trump, who often chastises media for putting out fake news, is the one guilty of using fallacy in insisting that immigrants bring crimes into the country.

A study conducted by a large-scale collaboration of four US universities show that while immigrant populations in the country have been growing fast for decades now, crime in the same period, has moved in the opposite direction, with the national rate of violent crime today well below what it was in 1980.

In Orange County in Southern California, for example, the study noted that while the immigrant population in the county has more than doubled since 1980, overall violent crime has decreased by more than 50 percent. On average, the immigrant population in the US grew by 137 percent between 1980 and 2016, with average crime falling 12 percent over the same period.

Even Trump’s claim that Germany’s crime rate has gone way up since it began accepting Middle East refugees is not true. Contrary to his assertion, crime has fallen off dramatically in Germany, with the country’s internal ministry reporting last month that the number of criminal offenses in Germany is the lowest since 1992, leading to the lowest crime rate for that country in more than 30 years.

In other words, there really is no basis for the Trump administration to continue blaming immigrants, even from those he calls “shithole” countries, for bringing crimes into America and Europe.

Even former First Lady Laura Bush and the First Lady Melania Trump were outraged by the cruelty of separating children from their mothers.

“The reason for these separations is a zero-tolerance policy for their parents, who are accused of illegally crossing our borders. I live in a border state. I appreciate the need to enforce and protect our international boundaries, but this zero-tolerance policy is cruel. It is immoral. And it breaks my heart,” Mrs. Bush wrote in an op-ed article in The Washington Post.

This administration that apparently governs without heart, is continuously breaking the hearts of immigrants who have throughout the nation’s history contributed to what America is now.

Let us listen to the better Trump. Let’s start considering booting out the heartless politicians and make America truly great again. Vote them out of office in November and in 2020.
