10th National Empowerment Conference of the Federation of Filipino American Association (NaFFAA)

[box type=”info” size=”medium”] (Speech delivered by this writer, who is NaFFAA national chairman, at the association’s Region 10 meeting held last week in San Diego, California.) [/box]It is my pleasure to witness the successful NaFFAA (National Federation of Filipino-American Associations) event happening right here, right now in Region 10. My gratitude goes to the outstanding leadership of Dr. Cudal, and the unwavering and undying support of everyone here in Region 10.

It gives me pride and joy to see how Region 10 brings together its great talents and generous donors to organize a truly empowering and inspiring conference that defines what NaFFAA is all about.

Since its inception 14 years ago, NaFFAA had been holding its fundamental goal – to promote the welfare and well-being all Filipinos and Filipino Americans throughout the United States. There are 12 regions currently and Region 10, the San Diego area is considered to be one of the most promising regions as of today.

The theme, “Rebuilding Region 10,” is a powerful expression of the Filipinos here in San Diego. It defines your passion and utmost desire to accomplish more, to strengthen your commitments and to expand your network – all of these in the spirit of building a better community for Filipinos and Filipino Americans.

And in your efforts to rebuild this region, I encourage you to carry on the inspirations that our NaFFAA founding fathers have set forth: 1) networking, and promoting awareness in civic and national affairs; 2) promoting awareness of our contributions to social economic, political and cultural life in the US; 3) securing social justice and fairness through advocacies; 4) strengthening community institutions that promote our cultural heritage, and 5) eliminating prejudices, stereotypes and ignorance of Filipinos.

Let me share with you some ideas or tools in rebuilding this region:
We start by creating a vision. We should ask ourselves: What are we rebuilding for? You have to seek for that rationale on what you want to re-build, why do you want this to happen? and make it as your vision. Creating a vision can be achieved at the individual level; in NaFFAA, creating a vision is a collective effort. In Region 10, a vision should define where Region 10 is going to five or 10 years from now.

You have to fuel your passion. Much of motivation is emotional. Emotion is a powerful force in getting us going. It gives us a sense of direction. Fueling your passion means finding creative ways to get you where you want to be. Make adjustments and tune up your gears to realize your goals.

Invest on commitment and hard work to maximize your desired results. You can build on your motivation by getting results.

The harder you work, the more results you will get, and the more results you get, the more you will be motivated to accomplish more. These things all build on one another.

Equip your mind with productive ideas. I can’t say this enough – but learn and grow. Read about the bios of successful people. Discover the recent trends on becoming successful. Learning the ropes to success can get you motivated and eventually achieve your own success!

Ride the momentum as it comes. Sometimes you just feel good about what you are doing, and it seems like you can’t stop yourself from being productive, trying new things, and getting good at what you do. When this moment comes, you have it keep it going, and enjoy every minute of it.

And lastly, get motivated everyday.  Motivation usually doesn’t last, it is difficult to get back on being motivated again. This is the reason why we have to reflect on things that keep us going and incorporate them as part of our everyday living.

Thank you very much, and congratulations once again to Region 10 for a job well done!
