FILAMCCO (Filipino-American Community Council) will once again host the celebration of Rizal Day this year.

The celebration will mark the 114th anniversary of the martyrdom of Dr. Jose Rizal, the Philippine national hero. The event will be held on Dec. 15, 2012 (Saturday) at Petruzzello’s Banquet Center on Rochester Road, Troy.

This is another opportunity to bring the members of the community together and immortalize Dr. Jose Rizal and cite his significance in our contemporary time.

The theme of this year’s celebration is “ Rizal Day 2012: A Tribute to Excellence.”

The traditional parade of organizations and floral offering will usher in the dinner-dance affair with entertainment and cultural presentation.

FILAMCCO is involving the youth in the celebration of the life and legacy of Dr. Jose Rizal with launching an essay-writing contest to be participated in by Filipino-American college students. Cash prizes await the winners.

One highlight of the celebration will be presentation of FILAMCCO’S Award of Excellence 2012 to outstanding Filipino American community organizations.

To enhance the Filipino Christmas spirit, a “noche buena” will be served to all attendees.

A committee in charge of the event is offering advertisement opportunities and event sponsorships.

A regular dinner ticket costs $55, and a sponsor ticket costs $100.

For ticket reservation and placement of ads in the souvenir program, individuals or groups are asked to call Chris Colon at 347-323-4740 or Ryan Rosario at 586- 808- 4568.

A part of the proceeds of this fundraising event will benefit the Philippine American Foundation Inc.

Rosario is calling on all presidents of Filipino-American organizations in Michigan to nominate their organization for the community-service excellence award by sending in a nomination letter to FILAMCCO.

The letter should include a narrative description of the organization and the reasons why it deserves the recognition. A highlight of the organization’s accomplishment and the impact of the community project should also be cited.

The winners of the search will be featured in the event’s souvenir program and in the Filipino Star News.

FILAMCCO accepts nominations electronically. The nomination should be sent to filamcco@comcast.net.
