A search is on for outstanding Filipino-American organizations.

The winners will be honored on December 15, 2012 during the Rizal Day celebration hosted annually by the Filipino-American Community Council (FILAMCCO).

The giving of FILAMCCO’s Award of Excellence to the outstanding organizations will be one of the highlights of the celebration.

This will be the first time FILAMCCO will be honoring its member- organizations that have done excellent volunteer work in Michigan and/or abroad.

The search is not a competition in the strictest sense of the word, but for an organization to be considered as potential recipient of the prestigious award, it should provide FILAMCCO the following:

1) Nomination letter from the president or any board member or officer; and 2) A narrative description of the organization as well as the reasons why it deserves the citation.

The nominator should also include information on the following: organization’s brief history, missions/objectives, programs/projects, how the projects are funded, highlights of accomplishment and the impact of the projects and programs in the community.

The giving of FILAMCCO’s Excellence Awards to the outstanding organizations will be witnessed by some 450 community members and guests who will be attending the celebration.

The winning organizations as well as photos of their activities will be featured in the event’s souvenir program and in the Filipino Star News, which is FILAMCCO’s media partner in this annual event.

It is my hope and prayer that FILAMCCO will continue the Search for Outstanding Filipino-American Organizations in Michigan in future Rizal Day celebrations. This could inspire organizations to do excellent work for the community.

The deadline for submission of nomination letters and other documents is December 1, 2012. These should be sent to FILAMCCO, care of Rose Caoagas, PACCM, 17356 Northland Court Park or e-mailed to osang@yahoo.com.

For more information about the search, interested organizations are asked to call FILAMCCO President Ryan Rosario at 586-774-1800 or this writer, who is the Rizal Day 2012 event committee chairperson at 586-713-8261.
